These coins are given out to business members in the community. The intent is for when businesses observe a positive in the community they recognize that moment with the individual and give them one of these coins. That individual meets with SLCPD's HRC Liberty Squad who thank them for doing a positive in the community and exchange the coin for a $5 gift card. HRC Liberty then goes back to the business and thanks them for their involvement and gives them the coin to circulate again. This program is funded by the local community through donations.
In the modern-day era of policing more has been expected than ever before from our officers. We are now expected to venture outside of strict enforcement of the laws, but to be multi-role guardians of the populace. This expectation requires a different approach to creating relationships and providing successful opportunities for our population, which goes hand in hand with crime reduction. We need to create a solid community that fosters growth for those in need and provides positive interactions between all parties involved. Enforcement, Engagement, and Empowerment work hand in hand to reduce crime and foster safe community growth.
On September 8th 2023 SLCPD Hosted a Movie night in partnership with the local community around Gail Miller Resource Center. During that event a survey was conducted to see if clients staying at the center felt safer after implementation of the HRC Liberty Squad had time to work the New Hope Initiative. There were 82 individuals who filled out surveys.
